Ukraine recovers $3.5 million of antimonopoly fine from Gazprom
KIEV, Jan 16 (PRIME) -- Ukraine has managed to recover 100 million Ukrainian hryvnias or U.S. $3.5 million from Gazprom under a court decision to impose a fine for the company’s monopolistic position in the country, head of the local antimonopoly committee Yuri Terentyev said on Tuesday.
The Kiev Economic Court earlier upheld charging Gaztransit 79.8 million hryvnias, which it would have otherwise paid in dividends to parent company Gazprom, as penalty.
The Ukrainian antimonopoly committee imposed the fine on Gazprom in 2015. In 2016, the fine increased to $6.4 billion for overdue payment. Gazprom contested the fine as it does not operate on the market of Ukraine, but all appeals failed.
